Bring the precious gifts of nature to common people has been the
motto of Shree Ashokbhai Sheth. He belongs to the renowned Karsandas
Gandhi Family and he is partner of Sheth Brothers (Kayam
Churna). Since last 30 years Ashokbhai has been vigorously
researching the fascinating world of plants and herbal medicines.
During this research he has left no stone unturned. He has spent
days and months in remotest jungles and mountains and has collected
and photographed rare specimens.
He
exhibited around 1700 specimens of Ayurvedic Medicine in 1996
at Bhavnagar. It was a most impressive event. In which Students,
Doctors, Scientists and common people everyone greatly benefited
from this exhibition as all of us are tired of allopathic medicines,
their side effects and reactions and we need to go back to our
roots, to the science of herbs (plants).
The
wonderful response from people and their enthusiasm inspired Ashokbhai
to go one step further and he decided to collate all information
and bring it out as a book. He hopes that this book will impart
detained knowledge of herbs and plants and that people should
benefit from it. He has planned it as a pictorial document for
the easy identification of all herbs (plants). This book is the
outcome of non- stop research which went on for more than two
decades.
Many
a times, Ashokbhai has visited Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, Bihar,
Orissa, Rajasthan, Gujarat as well as the great Himalayas in connection
with his research. Noticeably he has visited ice-clad mountain
regions of chamba which are situated at 7000 feet. Along with
his team, he has been researching there on some plants, whcih
may prove effective in treating cancer. He has interacted often
with Tibetan Lamas and also added their knowledge to his treasure
of information on ‘Ayurveda’.
Not
only he studies each and every plant in detail he also has identified
its different parts and various usages, their specific chemical
and medicinal properties, their effects and results. Every single
detail is minutely documented. In order to illustrate a particular
plant, he has also added explicit colour photographs of all the
parts of a specific plant. This has been a gigantic endeavour
which not only requires huge amount of money but also years of
patience and painstaking research and accumulation of knowledge.
Ashokbhai
has completed this mammoth task exceptionally well. Four volumes
of this book ‘Vasundhara ni Vanaspati’ have already
been published in Gujarati.
It
has received a tremendous response from press as well as people.
Times of India, Mumbai Samachar, Gujarat Samachar, Saurashtra
Samachar, Abhiyan and Chitralekha have heaped praises on him for
his unique accomplishments. Eminent dignitaries like Shree Moraribapu,
Shree Pramukh Swami and Shree Rameshbhai Oza have appreciated
and honoured Ashokbhai’s work.
Shree
Ashokbhai Sheth has proved beyond doubt that the key to
success is always unrelenting labour and a concentrated effort
to reach the goal, come what may.
