Now a days the value of herbal medicine has increased due to side
effects of synthetic drugs. The plants are being used as medicine
since antiquity. The plants are being employed to cure various ailments
by different therapies Viz. Ayurveda. Homeopathy, Unani, Naturopathy
and even Allopathy also.
The book on medicinal plants entitled `The herbs of Ayurveda' compiled
by Shree Ashokbhai Sheth a good effort made by him. I would like
to give them congratulations for this. This is the first book of
its kind, the book covers 600 medicinal plants. In which very good
data on each plant species with latest botanical names and different
languages and its vernacular names, family of plant species, distribution,
description of plant, parts used, chemical constituents, properties,
usages Ayurvedic formulations, dose and special note in which many
controversial disputes are discussed. At the opposite pages good
colour plates are given which may assist to identify plants for
common laymen in nature up to great extent. The paper used for preparing
this book, which are glossy, long-lasting and durable.
This wonderful book on medicinal plants will be useful to not only
students of Ayurveda, Botany, Homeopathy, Naturopathy, Unani and
Pharmacy; but also useful to teachers, lecturers and researchers
as well as common laymen.
